St Isidore of Seville

Who is the protector of this site, as well as the patron of computer programmers and interrnet surfers.

Actually I don't know much about this honourable saint and holy man (who was appointed to his new office only recently, in 2000, by Pope John Paul II). But as he is the patron of my profession my catholic background somehow induces me to adopt his helpful icon as a kind of talisman. Webster's Encyclopedic Unabridged Dictionary knows that his real name was Isodorus Hispalensis (which sounds somehow botanic to me, no offence meant) and he lived from 570 to 636. Pretty early to know anything about computers. He was a Spanish Archbishop, historian and encyclopedist; obviously a great scholar and a man of wisdom and learning, as is to be seen from his grave countenance.

I have prepared an electronic place of worship on this page where you can light a virtual candle for St Isidore and ask a question which is then emailed to me; I will discuss it with the Saint himself (who is also directly available under isidor@vatican.de). Please use his service only for advanced problems in the field of information science and computer programming. Internet connection trouble or system crashes are handled by worldly instances and St Isidore should not be bothered with them.

His divine hotline will then be mailing you back soon. Please be aware that St Isidore is quite new to this job and has yet to gain full expertise and knowledge of computer related problems. Though he is doing well and I see no obstacles to his further progress, I consider it my religious duty to answer the difficult questions myself and then discuss them with him in silent meditation until he will be fully capable of handling them on his own; so please forgive if you will be served by my limited knowledge only until St Isidore can answer the prayers himself. I am also looking for fellow programmers who are willing to share with me the burden of updating St Isidore's knowledge, as well as for donations for my St Isidore Operational Support Fund.

Oh, St Isidore, help!
